Hoping for victory

The baseball team is hoping to end the season strong.

The boys team has had a very inconsistent record. Their season began with three strong wins against three of the Parkway schools. As the season continued, their winning streak got less and less. There were several games postponed and rescheduled due to rain, which can be hard mentally on any team. And now, the team is sitting with a 10-9 record and only five more scheduled games to play (not including any games that will be made up for weather delays).

For the baseball team, the athletes are hoping to make the best of these last five games. This includes working together to make good plays, clean up their mistakes, and come out victorious.

Zachary Baldi, junior on the varsity baseball team feels that all of these fundamental basics will score them the victories they are searching for.

“We expect to basically win and have good pitching performances,” Baldi said.

As we are reaching the end of the season, we tend to look back from the very beginning. Junior Blake Painter said that he felt the team had a chance at success.

“We have a solid team and if we stay consistent without letting up we have a chance for a great season,” Painter said.

As we are looking back, we realize that the “consistency” Painter was talking about has been absent throughout the season. Not only was it absent in the team record of wins and losses, but it was also absent every time a player went up to bat, or fielded a ball, or caught a hit. Painter believes the inconsistency came from all aspects of the game.

While trying to improve their consistency, the team took two wins from Holt with scores of 9-7 and 4-2. Unfortunately, on April 29 the team lost to Kirkwood 14-4. With hopes to redeem themselves on April 30 against Francis Howell North, the team was disappointed when the game was postponed due to weather.

But today the team gets the chance to redeem themselves against Francis Howell North at 4:15 on North fields. It may be an away game, but coming out to support the team just might give the boys the spark of luck they need for the end of their season.
