Still coming down from the high they were on from a decisive victory over rival Francis Howell North, the girls basketball team was abruptly brought back to reality when it on the short end of a 49-45 battle against the Hawks of Hazelwood Central. The Spartans have been led all season by junior Stacey Belt, who now has a total of 127 points on the season, and sophomore Sharese Jones who has 256.
After its heart wrenching loss, the team looks to rebound Friday against a 6-8 Riverview Gardens team. It does not allow the past games to get in the way of what it is always looking to do, which is that is win.
“We lost a game, it’s not the first time, and we have the talent and the mindset to come back when we play again,” said Belt. “We will get back on track.”
As the season grows shorter the team is looking forward to a deep run in the GAC tournament and hopefully a bid at the state tournament as well.
