This being my first “real blog post” about what I’d like to chat about concerning this year, I wanted greatly to share with you a slice of music that I am absolutely obsessed with, and for good reason! For what artist has the capability of combining all the best aspects of a good sound, into one song? “The Amazing Atom” by At The Skylines ft. Kellin Quinn features flawless screams, perfectly on key cleans, phenomenal guest vocals and catchy chants!
Not to mention the seamless art of tying them all together into a delicious entree for the ear buds. But this is one that never gets old. If you have no idea who Kellin Quinn is, he does vocals in the band Sleeping with Sirens. Another fabulous band that I’m sure you’ll be reading about later on this year.
But, what is truly the most fascinating part about music like this is the depth of the lyrics, which is evidently something that nobody cares to look at anymore. But the lyrical aspect of a song is what MAKES it! While you’re reading, go here to listen while you read! Let’s take a look, shall we?
You took my heart awayand with His hands we’ll take it backdeceiving tongue of a serpentyou’ve twisted your waysnow demise is your path
Now I’m feelinga sense of distance between who I was just yesterdayhow did we slowly let dreams captivate what we thoughtwas our reality
I’m reaching I’m reaching!but I can feel the earth crumble beneath meForget what you know , cause we are the entityfor far too long we’ve held your heart in our handsso say your final goodbyes
Girl relaxlets reminisce about the good times in a whilelets slow dance, use your imaginationI can work wonders while all them others stumble down
Girl relax, girl relaxdon’t front let’s just be honest nowyou can show me how to keep things so closenow sober down now babythese cards we play are making us crazywhy can’t we just pretend like we’re alive
Feels like I’m climbing on my ownto reach the top of nothing moreIf this is what you call a kingdomthen I’ll build an empire to settle the score
You gave it all away for empty promisesnow you’ll never see the endI could have never imaginedthat you would want to throw it all away
How did we live to find outits all come down to this nowso make a choice lets not give in until we have toThe cards that we play, it goes with believingour rivals the same, so tell me you want to believe right now
LET’S GET SEXY FOR A SECOND
We’re dreaming of unconditional loveI’d save the grace and rebuild the place from the ground upCause soon enough they’ll climbbut the TOP is where I’ll stay
We’re dreaming of unconditional lovefrom the top to the bottom stay till everything else fades away
We’re dreaming of unconditional lovethis is where we’ll stay
From the top , From the topI beat you there.
This song is pure poetry. Reading it and listening to it, you can make of it what you like. But what I have gotten out of it is what we’re going to look at. There is an internal struggle presenting itself in his (the lyricist’s) mind. His dreams have become better than his reality, and there is nothing left for him to do but try to piece his reality back together. In doing so, he is also trying to ease his significant other. She is lost in the depth of his thoughts, and she wants desperately for things to go back to the way they were when their relationship began. She questions whether she should stay with him, or move on. When he says, “LET’S GET SEXY FOR A SECOND,” (might I add, the best, and most tasty line in the entire song) he is reassuring her that things can go back; she just needs to remember the good times. She needs to trust him and trust that the one thing he wishes for them is for her to understand the unconditional love which he possesses for her.
You can get your free download here. Listening to this song, makes me want to, move. I’m not going to sit here and sell the song to you, give you the facts & stats, or practice the art of ethos, logos, or pathos. I’m not going to write an article about what other people think of the song or genre, nor am I going to make this sound like a news story. I’ve deemed it my job to help the teenagers who have nobody to tell them what good music is besides the mainstream radio stations, find music that is worth their time.
