Mr. Howard
Elaine Mallon:
I’ve always been frail and weak, breaking a bone just about every other year. I’ve always been slow, always the first kid to get tagged. Overall, I just didn’t possess any natural athletic abilities, so it came to a great surprise to many when I enrolled into Sports Enhancement- an elite class designed for the college athlete. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. This class was for the football stars, the baseball studs, not an amateaur tennis player like myself. I wanted to be stronger, and I wanted to be faster, and everyday for three months, Mr. Howard has encouraged me, and respected me. He takes my efforts seriously. I may not be able to throw as far, or lift as much weight, or run as fast as others, but he doesn’t judge me for it. Everyday he encourages me to work harder. He builds me up, and he treats with me the same respect as he does with everyone else. Mr. Howard is an amazing coach- there’s no mystery behind the baseball team’s success. Hands down, one of the best teachers I’ve had. The first time I stepped into the weight room, I was only familiar with the dumbells. Now, I can do bar squats, I can do leg curls, I can do tricep curls. I no longer will look clueless when I work out. Howard has taught me growth and improvement is possible for everyone- you just gotta want it bad enough. I’m inspired by Howard, and I’m thankful that he could see purpose and worth in my endeavors when others failed to see it.
