Teacher Appreciation Week 2019
Isaiah Salin, Staff reporter
Nine hours a day, five days a week. Teachers put this time into their typical scheduled classes, not even counting the countless hours outside of the school week. Here at FHC, students appreciate this extra effort and dedicate a week to appreciate the teachers that always go above and beyond to improve the student’s learning experience. Students show their appreciation with gifts, kind gestures, and loving words.
Mr. Beckmann
Dear Mr. Beckmann, 50%. I had never gotten a 50 percent on a test or quiz before I’d gotten in to your class. And when I got a 50 percent on the chapter nine quiz, one can say I was slightly upset. Maybe a little more than slightly upset. But it was you who ran into me as I was walking to cross country practice that day and said to me, “You’ve never gotten a 50 percent on a quiz before in your...
Ms. Fay
Ms. Fay makes every day better. English has always been my favorite subject, and getting to be in Fay’s class makes it so much more fun. As a teacher she is attentive and always willing to help you and discuss what you are struggling with. I appreciate that she is someone easy to come to when I have questions or even if I just want to talk. There have been moments where Fay has pulled me aside t...
Mr. Griffin
Dear Griffin, Thanks to you, I was able to make it through half of high school and all of the marching band seasons I’ve been through so far. It’s been easy to be honest with you when I feel like I can’t be honest with anyone else. I can share with you all of the problems in Guard because of your laid back attitude and because of how much you care about the wellbeing of others. Yes, we ma...
Mrs. Baize
Walking through the halls of FHC, you hear different sounds coming from the different classrooms you pass. You can’t usually make out what is being said until you are right next to the doors, but that’s not the case with Mrs. Baize. All you have to do is get within 100 feet to hear her loud, energetic voice. This energy and enthusiasm sets Baize apart from all other teachers because she not only k...
Coach Radigan
Music. It’s all about the music. From hardcore rap to The Greatest Showman soundtrack to 80’s rock to High School Musical. Coach Radigan’s got it all. His ability to identify and enjoy so many different types of music is directly related to his ability to care and identify with so many different types of students. He makes it a priority to care about his students, to have fun, but also to work h...
Mr. McCoy
Mr. McCoy brings me endless amusement. I signed up for physics because I was interested in the way the world works, but I had no idea I was signing up to watch Mr. McCoy nerd out over physics for an hour! The joy he finds from our class labs and demonstrations makes the class so much more joyful. I appreciate being comfortable enough to come and ask him questions when I am struggling and the time he...
Mrs. Flood
From dealing with overbearing students during seminar to coming in early to film presentations to also being open for any discussion, Mrs. Flood has drastically impacted my high school career over the past two years. At times she may be too generous with deadlines and willing to give extended time on assignments, it is because she has a true passion and love for her students. She wants to help the...
Mrs. LaRue
Mrs. Larue might have one of the toughest teaching jobs there is. Not because her class is super hard, but because she teaches Pre-AP English to the freshman, the kids who are new to the school. She has to teach them the basics of high school English, and help prepare them for what will come later in high school. Not only that, but she has to put up with all the awkward freshman immaturity while they ...
Mr. Messerli
Dear Mr. Messerli, There has been no teacher who has impacted me as person more than you. Thanks to your teaching, I’ve been on cloud nine for the past 4 months after making the Colts drum and bugle corps. The value of hard work you taught and the advice you gave helped make me into someone who tries their absolute hardest to achieve what they want and not just put it off until next year. The...
Mr. Schott
Dear Schott, This school year has been one of the best of my life. Being in newspaper has given me the greatest passion I’ve ever known, and I’m so grateful to you for being a mentor and role-model throughout my process of growing as a journalist. You are truly the best teacher I’ve ever had, and having you to guide me has changed my life. I’ve grown so much in your class this year, and...
Mrs. Morrow
Teaching is a common profession; however, not all teachers are able to evoke the passion for learning many students require to flourish in an educational environment. Mrs. Morrow is another story. Not only is she extremely intelligent and gifted in her mathematical abilities, but she is also able to communicate her knowledge to her students in a way they can easily comprehend. Anyone who has seen her in acti...
Mrs. Sprick
I just wanted to thank Mrs. Sprick for being one of the most kind and understanding people in this building. She’s always kind and enthusiastic about what she has planned for the day and brings a brightness to my day. She is really encouraging to me and it is really nice to see how much she genuinely enjoys her day and teaching kids about art. Mrs. Sprick is just one of those people who radiates su...
Ms. Rulo
I went into AP Calculus this year a little terrified and very worried. I’ve been lucky to usually excel in math classes, and have always been able to balance school with work, theatre, and anything else in my life. But Calc. pushed me, and in more ways than one. But right alongside it there was Ms. Rulo pushing me as well. She also supported me, encouraged me, and asked me all about what I’...
Mrs. Shockley
Through high school, there have been many teachers that have impacted me. One of the ones that has left a great impact, is Mrs. Shockley. She teaches AP Lit, and let me tell you this: it’s lit. She makes every class period fun and enjoyable, and teaches us all about the different things we need to know for the AP test. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her students (even the ones who...
