Dena Dauve
It is known that just speaking the word calculus, sends shivers down spines, causes brains to go haywire, and jaws to drop. Calculus, a seemingly impossible subject that only the smartest, or arguably the stupidest, attempt. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I am here to change this little narrative the world calls calculus, all because one Dauve in shining armor rescued me from the fear and despair it inspires in even the bravest minds.
She slashed her sword through limits, freeing all of her pupils of boundaries and confinement. “You can do anything,” she whispers, cheering us on through every limit that lay across our traveling path. She taught us how to find the derivative from where we start our journeys to where they end with her magical maps and graphs. With her mighty shield, she took the brunt of our miscalculations, encouraging us to try again. She fought back monsters and demons to protect us, insisting that we are an integral part of battling calculus every day. This Dauve in shining armor even crossed swords with a sorceress who cursed the land and forced everyone to be apart. She traveled far and wide, dawned in full battle armor, bearing gifts to each and every pupil simply because she cares.
Thank you Mrs. Dauve for teaching something so seemingly impossible and turning it into much more. Thank you for an (almost) year-long journey and helping to make the most of the unfortunate ending to our quest, together. I will forever look back in longing for just one more calculus battle with you.
