Physics teacher Ryan McCoy leans in to check a student’s work in his AP Physics class.

Mr. McCoy

Dear Mr. McCoy,

Hi, this is Colin Nichols, your physical friend, and I really hope this letter accelerates in your hands rather forcefully. Teacher Appreciation Week is from May 8 to May 12, 2023, and this letter is here to bring your heart, body, and mind to equilibrium.

First of all, you’re amazingly enthusiastic. Effortlessly, you can just think of a new situation in which a certain principle applies to and every new example helps me understand better. Although I don’t always have a complete understanding of everything you talk about, your enthusiasm about something that I don’t at first understand encourages and propels others and me to find the excitement through understanding. But even if I don’t understand fully, I can always grasp why something may sound weird and backwards, making it more interesting. When each week leaves the whole class in awe, this class is for sure a great one.

Also, even though your teaching velocity is kind of fast, whenever I think to ask a question, I can easily fall back on track. Sometimes to answer something, you drop back to square one, and your strategy for answering questions helps me realize exactly which part doesn’t make sense to me. So once again, conversations with you continuously build up my momentum, leading to a massive and speedy understanding after thinking through everything.

Finally, you’re a wonderful person to talk to. I feel that if I had a problem, I could come to you simply and harmonically share soundwaves in order to reach some sort of solution. Even though I rarely really need to speak to my teachers for reasons listed previously, I would feel comfortable speaking with you about anything and that is something I believe you should know.

Anyway, thank you again for being such a wonderful teacher this year, and even though AP Physics II is a no-go, I can still talk to you in the halls about any science curiosities I have. Now, I will create some distance with this letter to produce more torque so that it can more easily reach you.

Fondly,

Colin Nichols
