Prepared to play against the number one team in the state, the boys soccer team anticipated a tough game on Thursday, Sept. 25 against Chaminade. Players like senior Maxwell Kirkpatrick found this game to be a test of all their practice.

“We were expecting a very, very hard game, and we just went in. We [gave] it our best.” Kirkpatrick said.

Although the team played its best, Chaminade still came up on top. The team had dominated the second half, yet could not seem to place the ball in the net. According to Coach Nicholas Beckman, the goals against the team were due to lack in the defense.

“[Chaminade] played very direct, and their two goals were off of balls in the air, and we knew that we had to defend that, but we didn’t.” Beckmann said.

Despite the loss, the team was not disappointed with how they played, according to junior Kyle Setchfield.

“I think we actually played good, toward the second half we possessed the ball more than [Chaminade] and we were just doing better.” Setchfield said.

With one game against Chaminade under the team’s belt, the team hopes to see Chaminade again during the districts tournament. If the teams face again, Kirkpatrick believes not much will be changed in the way the team will play.

“The only difference that I can see is better defending set pieces, that’s really the only thing that we would have to change against Chaminade.” Kirkpatrick said.

The next home soccer game will be on Thursday, October 2 against Fort Zumwalt East.
