Final year, final games

Seniors remain confident about first district game

Senior running-back Jordon Cooper makes a run up the field earlier this season.

As the football team nears its first playoff game this Saturday against Hazelwood Central, senior teammates begin to think about their possible final game as Spartans and are determined to give it their all out on the field Saturday.

Though it may be his last game, the nerves still have not hit senior running-back Jordon Cooper.

“At the game I probably will be nervous because it’s going to hit me that it’s our last game, “ said Cooper.

However, for some of the players, nerves are not an option, senior kicker Patrick Hoth is one of these players.

“You can’t really be nervous going into a game because you never know when it is going to be your last one,” said Hoth.

The Spartans faced a tough loss early on in districts last year to Hazelwood Central, but the seniors remain determined, especially senior captain Taylor Eichel.

“I feel pretty good and confident in what my team can do. I think we will surprise a lot of people,” said Eichel.

The team ended its regular season 2-7, but Eichel is staying confident in his team’s abilities.

“I’ve seen our team perform well before and I know we can do a pretty great thing,” said Eichel.

The team will travel to Hazelwood Central this Saturday at 2 p.m. in hopes of redemption from last year. If the Spartans lose, it will be the last game of the seniors high school careers.
