Its game day for the girls varsity basketball team. They are competing in their third and final game of the Little Caesars Invitational the girls play for third place. Anticipating the game and competition, the girls were eager and ready to play. Junior Hannah Currant, being a third year varsity player was excited for the game.

“ Yeah I’m very excited because we have a good chance of winning,” said Currant.

The team was looking for redemption against the Cougars because in the same tournament last year, the Spartans had lost. Junior Payton Kolb shares how the team is ready for redemption.

“I’m excited because we lost to them last year, and I feel like it’s going to be a good game and we can show them that we have improved our work,” said Kolb.

With improvement comes hard work, and junior Ashley Roland shares that’s why she is excited for the upcoming game.

“I think we have been playing really well in this tournament and i’m just excited to see how all our hard work pays off,” said Roland.

The team has been perfecting and working hard on many skills to help improve personal level of play which leads  to an overall increase in the team’s skill, according to Kolb.

“Mostly getting to the rim and being strong and making ourselves bigger than everybody else,” said Kolb.

Hannah Currant also shares what she has been working on a lot lately along with the rest of the team as well.

“A lot of defence and ball pressure,” said Currant.

And that is exactly what the girls did. The team’s hard work payed off because the Spartans did take home the win and clinched the third place spot in the tournament from the Cougars. They finished the tournament 2 and 1 and the game they lost was only by nine points.

“We lost the second game but only by nine to the team that is ranked first in state,” said Roland.

However disappointed by the loss the team was still proud of their hard work. The team is glad to start off the season strong and and looking forward to a successful season and they believe it can only go up from here.

“I think our basketball season is going really well and I know we are going to be top notch,” said Kolb.

With nowhere to go but up, the team has great expectations for a season that already has a solid start.

“Its looking good. I think this season overall will be one to remember,” said Roland.
