Off to a good start

On Tuesday, March 28, the varsity girls lacrosse team started off their season at home facing Incarnate Word Academy. The final score was 15 to 3 Spartans

The Spartans crushed Red Knights on both offensive and defensive sides by repeatedly scoring and turning stops into points. At least six players for the Spartans scored and four scored multiple time.

They were efficient on moving the ball around making sure they got the best shot as possible and communicating as one unit.

After the game, sophomore Josie Prince, was very happy about the performance both her and the team displayed for the home crowd and the effort they put forth against the Knights.

“It was really great for both myself and the team, we did what we had to do which was stop them from scoring and our offence did their job by putting the ball in their net,” Prince said.

In stopping the Red Knights from scoring, the Spartans defence controlled the ball all game long, getting stop after stop and not letting up on either ends regardless of what the deficit was.

Prince added, “I’m very happy to get a chance to play for this school and this team. Especially being a younger player, I’m able to watch the upperclassmen perform and teach me as well as the others what we need to do to be successful.”

This is the second year Price has played for the Spartans and she intends on playing until her senior year.

Sophomore Ansley Chilcoat, varsity defender, contributed by helping the defence get five stops that eventually turned into points.

“I think we played really well, I think we will have a really good season and hopefully be the best team in the conference.” Chilcoat said.

This year is also Chilcoat’s second year of playing for FHC and she too intends on playing and teaching the upcoming freshman.

Last season the girls lacrosse team had a record of 11-1-2. The team looks forward to achieving a better record this year and the years ahead.

Varsity’s next game is Tuesday, April 4th at Hazelwood East at 4:15.
