Under the heat of the setting sun, varsity football teams from Francis Howell Central and Francis Howell High faced each other on Friday, Sept. 14. Francis Howell Central suffered a 0-42 loss against Howell, but the night did not end there. Friday’s game also marked the 4th annual Light the Field ceremony which was dedicated to those lost to cancer and those still fighting it.

“Light the Field means showing respect to the ones who are battling cancer,…[those] who beat cancer, and [those] we have lost to cancer.” Junior and Student Council member Vanessa Luan said. “I…think it is important that we have Light the Field to remind everyone [that] we are stronger when we are united.”

Francis Howell Central’s varsity football team has another home competition on Sept. 28 against Francis Howell North for homecoming. Although Light the Field is a once-a-year event,  it will be around again near the same time next year.
