Last night, the varsity boys basketball team won their game at districts against Hazelwood West with a final score of 75-66. This win advances the team to the Class 5 District 6 Championship Game on Friday night.
Winning this game took determination and tact from each of the players. Senior Cameron Dent, along with the rest of his team, competed intensely and secured their spot playing at Friday’s game.
“I handled the pressure from Hazelwood West and I think I did everything I could to help my team win,” Dent said.
Senior Austin Crudup notes there was a lot of pressure on the team to perform well at the game and win the district title.
“We really [want to] win districts really want to put something on that wall,” Crudup said. “I think as the game progressed we really just dug deep and I don’t know we just pulled through at the end.”
Hazelwood West put up a fight last night, but Central persevered and ended the game with a win.
“We [kind of] struggled the first half, but we came back after half time and it allowed us to win the game,” Dent said.
During the second half of the game, junior Logan Scott scored a three-pointer which allowed Central to win.
“I think that was the biggest highlight of the game for us because it secured the win for us,” Dent said.
Crudup agrees Scott had a big impact on the remainder of the game.
“It put us ahead in the game and that was a lot of energy like the whole game just kinda lit up after that,” Crudup said.
Both boys and girls varsity basketball advanced to districts on Friday night, and spartan nation is eager to see how they will perform.
