Stepping onto the court
The boys are causing a racket with their impressive start to the season
March 27, 2019
With the spring season beginning there are many sports that are starting up again for their respective seasons including the boys tennis team. With practices in full swing and the weather getting warmer the newcomers to the team are getting more and more into the sport. Freshman Spencer Klein has already been welcomed by the other players.
“Well I started off really bad,” Klein said. “But it’s gotten better because I’ve gotten better and [meeting] more people and becoming friends with them.”
Even though the season is just beginning that hasn’t prevented the team from looking forward to the rest of the season. Sophomore Sam Schwarm, another new addition to the team, has already thought of how the season may end up for the team.
“Judging from the practices [I think the season is gonna go] really well,” Schwarm said.
The preseason has been excellent for the team with all of them getting a good feeling for the sport, making sure every member is going to be ready for their upcoming meets. Senior Jacob Salse has been training hard to impress.
“I think I’ve shown a lot of improvement,” Salse said. “Especially just in the past few weeks, given that I started about three weeks ago.”
Although the season has gotten off to a great start having a win against Fort Zumwalt East with a score of 7-2 under their belts, there are some areas that need more work.
“As a team, I’d like to work a little bit more on team bonding,” Salse said. “I don’t think that we’re very intertwined [yet].”
While team bonding may be lacking, the team has done well involving the newest members into their sport.
“I feel like they’re all nice to everybody,” Klein said. “They’re not harsh on each other, like if you mess up they won’t [get on] you for it.”
The team is poised and ready to take on their opponents to improve their records throughout the entire season. With a great start they look onto their next home meet tomorrow at 4:00 PM against DeSmet. Support the team by going to the meet and cheering them on as they take on this new challenge.
