Last year, the boys soccer team were 0-2 against Fort Zummwalt West. Fast forward to last Wednesday when the Spartans got their revenge, dominating Jaguars 2-1 at home.

The Spartans dominated possession, taking shot after shot on the Jaguar’s goal outshooting them 28-2. Sophomore Kyle Setchfield struck first, artfully making his way through several Jaguar defenders the  burying the ball into the goal putting the Spartans up 1-0.

The Jaguars responded with a fluke goal off of a deflection off of senior goalie Chase Webert. For the rest of the game the Spartans struggled to find the back of the net, but late in the second half senior Ryan Hutson slipped through the Jaguar’s defense and connected with a cross for a goal, locking up the win for the Spartans.

“We dictated the pace of play, we had the ball on their side of the field the majority of the game and we had a majority of the scoring opportunities,” Hutson said.

The Spartans will play rival Francis Howell at Howell tonight at 7:30 p.m.
