Loss at the final four
Boys soccer team falls to Lee’s Summit 2-1 in physical final four match
Four. Four straight district titles, four straight sectional titles, and now a final four match. The boys soccer team have had quite the season; however, it is not over yet. Friday, the boys faced Lee’s Summit and were presented with quite a challenge. Facing the team for the second time, the Spartans came in pumped, ready to work its way to a state title, but wound up falling short.
The match started and both teams battled for possession, but with 19:16 left in the half, the Lee’s Summit Tigers scored, gaining an advantage on the Spartans. The boys soccer team did not give up, and continued to try to cut the lead.
The match became incredibly physical as each team fought it out. Again, the Tigers placed the ball into the net with 28:40 remaining in the second half. With the lead separated even more, the team felt the pressure to make a quick comeback. After being fouled, senior Justin Stinson took a free kick that broke past Lee’s Summit’s defense, so that senior Ryan Hutson was able to strike and score. This goal gave the team some fuel to its fire and it began to pick up pace.
Although the team was encouraged by the goal, it could not equalize, despite its many attempts. The Spartans ended the game 1-2 and will face Rockhurst High School tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Blue Springs South High School.
