Swinging into the season
The girls golf team’s season began with a loss
Monday Aug. 24th the girl’s golf team had its first match of the season, one of the four they will playing this week, at the Links of Dardenne in O’Fallon, playing against St. Dominic.
Although the Spartan girls lost 168-202, they remain optimistic, and quite confident in the team’s ability this year. Junior Emma Wolf, varsity player and team captain, realizes the improvement the team has made in comparison to last year, and predicts the girls can make it pretty far this season.
“Saying we will make it to state is never a definite thing, but I would say we have a really good chance at making it past districts”, Wolf said.
In agreement with Wolf, senior Rachel Mossotti said the team is doing well for the beginning of the season, and expects nothing short of excellence for the remainder of the season.
“I expect us to just keep improving, I feel like we have a lot of really good girls, and I feel like all we can do is go up from here,” Mossotti said.
Mossotti and Wolf excelled during the match, despite the first-match-jitters, and both got a birdie, Emma on hole #7 and Rachel on hole #2. When asked who they would describe as their biggest competition, both girls had one school in mind.
“There’s a lot of good competition out there, I think, but there’s always Howell,” Mossotti said.
Since this match the girls have had a match on Aug. 26th competing against Ft. Zumwalt South High School, FHC losing. Aug. 27th, competing against Ft. Zumwalt North High School, FHC won. Aug. 28th, competing against Francis Howell High School, FHC lost to Howell.
