Detention is now open and available for students to serve their detentions.
Detentions are every morning at 6:30-7:15.
You may also serve detentions everyday at 2:30 – you must report to the cafeteria on time. Or, you may serve detentions on Saturday from 9:00 – noon.
Congratulations to the freshman wrestling team for capping off an undefeated dual meet record Wednesday night with a win against Francis Howell North. The freshman wrestlers went 19-0 this season! Great Job to all freshman Spartan wrestlers. (2/3)
Junior Boys interested in government and politics are welcome to apply to Missouri Boys’ State, a free one week program run by the American Legion that is a leadership training program run as a simulation of government in action. The program will take place from June 16-23, 2012 on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Participants are eligible for additional scholarships to certain four year universities. Additional information is available at www.moboysstate.org. Students may complete the application online but all applications must be printed out and handed into Dr. Gang in the guidance office. Our school is permitted a certain number of applicants to the program who will be chosen from the applications received in guidance. See Dr. Gang in guidance if you have additional questions. (2/3)
There will be a Varsity Baseball meeting after school Monday, February 6, in room #10. This meeting is for any junior or senior trying out for Varsity Baseball. If you cannot make this meeting, please contact Coach Howard. (2/6)
Golf informational meeting on February 13th in room 3 from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. Try-out information and forms will be distributed. Please attend if you are interested in participating in the 2011-2012 Boys Golf season. (2/13)
Please help support our WWII veterans by buying a “Cupcake for a Cause.”
Spartaneers & Student Ambassadors along with Student Council will be selling cupcakes for $1.00 after school on early release Wednesday’s in the Cafeteria.
Your money will help WWII veterans go on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to see their WWII memorial. (1/31)
ART CLUB will be selling Leap Year t-shirts during all lunches on February 1,2,and 3. The cost will be $8 which must by paid at the time of purchase. Art Club members will be making the shirts. Proceeds will go to St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital and a no kill animal shelter. Delivery of shirts will be during lunches prior to February 29 so shirts can be worn on Leap Year Day. SUMMER PROGRAMS:
Mini medical school – Mizzou is running a one week mini medical school for students interested in anatomy, microbiology and other medical clinical skills. Students will be introduced to MU’s problem based learning curriculum. Entrance criteria include GPA, ACT scores, student response to an essay question and a recommendation from a science teacher. Interested in Art? The School of the Art Institute of Chicago has summer classes as part of their early college program summer institute for high school students. Go to www.saic.edu/ecp for more information.
The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance is offering a variety of pre college classes in their summer performing arts institutes. Go to www.music.umich.edu/youthprograms for more information.
Washington University is offering several different types of summer experiences including a five week Summer Scholars program as well as a writing institute, a pre-medical institute, and a photojournalism institute which last three weeks. Students who meet the requirements are also eligible to enroll in summer or fall classes. For more information go to http://summerexperiences.wustl.edu.
Lindenwood University is offering a three day Summer Youth Leadership Project to help students learn leadership skills and understand their role in social change and provide an opportunity to act in service to others.
