On Feb. 24, the choir will be attending the first Fest Music Festival, hosted by Missouri Baptist University. Each group will be performing two songs in front of a panel of judges. They will not be receiving a score, but instead, some constructive criticism and praise.
The combined chamber choirs, and the combined treble and concert choirs, will be judged on how well they perform.
“We are working really hard,” said senior Kayla Kammermyer. “It may not seem like much, but it’s a lot of work.”
Not only are they preforming in the upcoming festival, but the members of choir are also writing about Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. They will be entering their work in Express the music, an enlightenment program through the Saint Louis Symphony.
“They’re trying to show seniors all of the different type of music,” said Kammermyer.
Any choir student in the St. Louis area can enter. Those who write will be listening to a certain piece of music, and they will write about what comes to their minds. It can be a short story, poem, or essay. Nothing in the work can be real, or mentioned, the writer has to use their complete imagination to fulfil the requirements. The winner of the contest will receive a $400 cash prize.
