Positivity overcomes obstacles

Girls’ tennis regular season is coming to a close, and the girls reflect on the recent senior night matches and the season as a whole.

The girls tennis team competed against St. Charles High last Wednesday. Jensen Schetter and Payton Frick celebrated their senior night with the team.

With the season coming to a close for the girls’ tennis team, they’ve overcome obstacles such as an influx in players and several injuries. This hasn’t stopped the girls from enjoying their season and making the most of it.

Senior,Jensen Schetter, has learned a few things since starting tennis with her best friend, Payton Frick.

“Tennis has taught me how to be patient and how to develop a consistent routine. I also feel like it has helped me to become a better leader since Payton and I were the only seniors this year. I’ve also made a lot of new friends through tennis,” Schetter said.

Like Schetter, sophomore Sydney Taylor, learned from the season and enjoyed getting closer to her teammates.

“I have learned to just go with the flow, because you can’t let your emotions get in the way of your match, so just have fun,” Taylor said. “My favorite part has been just getting closer to the new players and the players from last year.”

While Taylor enjoys camaraderie with the rest of the team, she also appreciated the calm atmosphere of Schetter and Frick’s senior night.

“On Payton and Jensen’s senior night, we won. It was a really fun and calm atmosphere, and it was really cool to see the whole team come together to support our two seniors,” Taylor said.

The atmosphere that surrounds the team also influences junior Audrey Vendetti’s experience. She finds she’s never bored around the girls and wishes she had joined the team sooner.

“This is my first season but I wish I had started sooner,” Vendetti said. “I really enjoy the people and the atmosphere. Everyone is so positive and encouraging that there’s never a dull moment.”

Schetter found the positive vibes the team exudes to be a wonderful addition as well.

“All of the girls’ continuous support was really helpful, so tennis for me is really an escape [from reality]. The season as a whole has been great,” Schetter said.

The team may have faced obstacles this season, but those were overwhelmed by positivity and a calm, encouraging feeling that will surround the team for the remainder of the season.
