Parkway Round Robin success

The boys baseball team faced three Parkway schools over spring break and came out victorious.

Francis Howell Central’s baseball season kicked off during spring break at the Parkway Round Robin tournament. Our team played Parkway South and Parkway Central on March 16, followed by Parkway West on March 18. Sophomore Kannon Cissell feels the team had strong spirit and hopes for these games.

“We had a lot of energy on the team and everyone was feeling good, doing good,” Cissell said.

The results of these games not only were dictated by the hard fought competition, but also the hard work that went in before the season even began.

The boys underwent preseason conditioning and practices throughout winter to strengthen their team skill and bond. Junior Blake Painter feels that their team has prepared most through practices.

“Lots of practice on the small things were needed to succeed in games,” Painter said. “[It was] lots of reps, hitting, and pitching.”

When the hard work was done and the tournament began, the urgency and dedication to their games assisted the teams in their success. Painter attributes their success to their pitching and hitting.

The team won their first game 10-3, their second 5-1, and their third 10-3. Winning all three games boosted the team’s faith in their play.

Looking forward for the team’s season, they have several fierce competitors in their league that they will play this upcoming month. From Francis Howell High to Lee’s Summit West (Midwest Classic), the team will be faced with several challenges throughout the year that they will overcome and learn from.

Last year, the team lost several seniors that helped the team grow. But this year, several new players have joined the varsity team and have helped the team change in a new direction. With different minds working different plays, the team is always changing. But for our Francis Howell Central boys, this change is accepted and embraced.
