Thursday afternoon, the district was alerted to a possible shooting in a subdivision near Fairmount Elementary School. In response, Superintendent Pam Sloan sent schools across the district into a precautionary exterior lockdown.
“Law enforcement does not believe that there is an immediate threat to our schools,” Dr. Sloan said in a district-wide email sent at 12:16 p.m. Thursday. “However, as a precautionary measure, we will be going into exterior lockdown to limit the outside access to students. When schools go into exterior lockdown, school activity goes on as normal inside the building and there is no outside school activity.”
All exterior doors of the building have been locked and are being monitored by staff.
“The St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department is currently searching for the suspect. We will notify you when we have additional details,” Dr. Sloan said in her email.
