Marching on
Spartan Regiment has started to prepare for its next season.
After ending last season with a win, the Spartan Regiment is coming back to prepare for their next season. Band is spending Saturday, May 9 from 8 am-12pm teaching the freshman and new band members how to march. This is necessary to insure that new marchers know what to do. Junior Mariah Skelly is starting her fourth and final year of marching band with these meetings.
“They learn how to stand at attention, how to mark time, and how to roll step for band.” Skelly said, “these are techniques needed for marching.”
The marching band does not only focus on the musicians with these meetings, it also spends time teaching new guard members how to succeed. Guard is a big part of band, so there is also a need to recruit more guard members and teach them new techniques. Junior Leslie Sutton has spent 3 years on both color guard and regiment.
“Guard is doing walks, jumps, and basic flag warm up routines,” Sutton said.
The band’s main goal is to recruit more members to march with them in performances during their next season. Junior, Jennifer Files has been on color guard since her freshman year, and she has always had a place for marching band in her heart.
“We’re trying to get as many people involved as we possibly can for an exciting next year,” Files said.
