Varsity soccer beats Hazelwood West 4-3 in penalty kicks

The Spartans are one step closer to accomplishing their goal of an appearance in the final four.

Through the first 90 minutes, both defenses maintained high levels of intensity, not allowing a single point. Senior goalie Kevin Dougherty led the standout defensive performance, with a key save at the 13:40 mark in the second period.

The teams played though seven rounds of penalty kicks. Central and West split two rounds with scores before senior Stephen Rozycki put the team ahead and Dougherty closed it out with a final save.

The Spartans rushed the field knowing that they are one win away from the final four. The game will be Saturday at Don Muench Stadium at 3 p.m and the opponent will be Oakville, who defeated Rockwood Summit.

The team goes into its next game 18-7-3.
