    Cheerleaders display leadership

For the past two weeks, the varsity cheerleaders have been meeting twice a week to teach the freshmen cheerleaders their wrestling cheers for the season. Junior Danielle Austin describes the practices as unlike any other practice they have had before.

“Practices are pretty laid back,” Austin said. “We sit in a circle and repeat the cheers until the freshmen catch on.”

Austin also goes on to explain that a lot of work goes in to teaching the cheers, and although it can get frustrating, she is proud of her team for displaying its true leadership skills.

“It takes a lot of patience to teach the freshmen,” Austin said. “It’s difficult to learn the beat of all the different cheers, but I know eventually they’ll understand it, and I’m glad to be able to help them.”
