Hockey gets the double W
Hockey team celebrates their senior night with a two game winning streak
On Tuesday night, the Spartan hockey team took on Holt for their senior night. They won 8-6, with senior Gabe Vendetti scoring three of the goals. Vendetti will not be continuing his hockey career, but he has had a wonderful time playing.
“I will not be continuing hockey,” Vendetti said. “ I’ve had a lot of fun playing; I don’t think I have any regrets.”
For Vendetti, hockey is less about the sport and scoring goals. He will miss playing with teammates who have become brothers.
“I shouldn’t have cared as much about winning and losing when I was younger and focused on making myself and the people around me better players and people,” said Vendetti. “[Hockey] is kind of like a brotherhood. I am going to missing being so close to those people.”
Freshman Tyler Bradley has a senior brother, Jacob Bradley, making senior night an emotional night for his entire family.
“The seniors have taught us to inspire others,” said Bradley. “Senior night was emotional more than anything else.”
Both Bradley and sophomore Fletcher Zieman agreed that the senior who stands out the most was Vendetti. He has came and scored a lot during the season, exemplified by his hat trick.
“While all the seniors were great, Gabe just really stood out,” Zieman said.
The season is not over for the Spartans. They have one more regular season and they got into playoffs. They are not done working hard, either. For Bradley, he hopes the team just keeps getting closer and more like a family.
“I hope by the end of the season we are a family, get together more,” Bradley said.
For Vendetti, this is the end of the end and he wants to go out leaving everything on the ice. The season record has been improving and they have the chance to go out better than the beginning of the season alluded.
“I just want to make a name for ourselves. We didn’t really do that in the beginning of the season,” Vendetti said. “We are on a two game winning streak right now; we are doing better than we have all season.”
If the last two games say anything, the end of the season could be successful. According to Vendetti, the last games have been full of determination and hard work that drives everyone to just do better.
“Just the grit and determination that’s been showing the last two games has been inspiring. It’s made me want to try to do my best, even more than I already have,” Vendetti said.
