On Tuesday, the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars and the Spartans took the field. Although seemingly unimportant to anybody in the crowd, the teams saw this game as one of the most important. It was a very tense atmosphere for the players along with the crowds. Aside from the cheerleaders, the crowds seemed silent until senior Austin Pierce scored the first goal of the evening for the Spartans, followed soon by sophomore Tristan Hasmer. Later senior Nick Powers scored the third goal of the night, sealing the deal for the Spartans. Winning the game 3-1 made them undefeated in the conference.

“We made history yesterday,” said sophomore Justin Stinson.

Although winning the game was substantial, they do not plan on stopping there.

“Winning the conference was just one of our first goals,” according to senior goalie, Clayton Luley.

With the potential to go all the way, the boys have been giving it their all. It may seem like fall sports are coming to a close, but boys soccer has just began. In regular season alone the boys have three extremely important games left against DeSmet, Oakville and Vianney.

“They’re all important, but DeSmet is the biggest deal because they’re ranked higher than teams that have beaten us,” said Stinson.

On Friday, Central will take the field at home, in hopes to beat the Spartans from DeSmet, who are currently ranked fifth in Missouri boys large teams, and make their way up to the top just in time for the state game.

“We have the talent to go pretty far, but I can’t say any definite statements. I don’t want to jinx us,” said Luley.
