The return of the Winter Formal is important to the student body, and STUCO aims to make it count in the community as well. The dance will be called “Wishes in Wonderland”, and according to chair Sean Earl, the theme is more than just a catchy title.
“Winter formal isn’t just about dancing and having fun. It’s about raising money for a great cause, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and helping FHC do its part in the community,” said Earl.
A majority of the decorations were ordered last Thursday at a special meeting, but STUCO members want to keep them a surprise.
“The decorations are top secret for now, but I can say that it will be something very different,” said Earl.
By keeping expenses lower than a traditional dance, like Homecoming, a portion of ticket sales will be donated to Make-a-Wish, which grants the wish of a child with a terminal disease. STUCO will also be taking donations, and they hope to raise around $5,000 to help fulfill a child’s wish.
The dance is scheduled for February 23rd, and it was decided to be a Sadie Hawkins style dance.
“I’m anxious! I hope attendance is high and that people have a lot of fun, but my top priority is to raise enough money to grant our wish,” said Earl.
