Strong offensive, defensive performance leads to victory

The varsity boys soccer team started off the season right where they left off last year with a 4-0 victory over Fort Zumwalt North.

With goals scored by junior Derek Hoerman, seniors Taylor Yocum, Joe Macke and Paul Haluszczak, the Spartans easily soared past the Panthers.

Goalie Michael Caldwell, a junior, had a strong performance as he shut out the Panthers Tuesday evening.

“Our performance was really great. We have great chemistry, and we bond together very well,” said Caldwell.

Winning the first game of the season helps build confidence for the team.

“It gives us confidence to compete against any team,” said Caldwell.

The Spartans hope to continue success as they take on Granite City High School Thursday night at FHC.
