Soccer team enters CYC tournament
The varsity boys soccer has entered play in the 56th Annual CYC St. Louis-area soccer tournament with a record of 5-2-2. This includes a 1-0 loss to Timberland High School last Thursday. Timberland had ended the Spartans’ state run last year, defeating them in district play.
According to junior midfielder Ryan Miller, assistant coach Nick Beckmann has been working on a few key aspects in order to improve team play.
“[Coach Beckmann] is working with us to push the speed of play,” said Miller. “We are also working on increasing our total possession time.”
The team’s first match of the tournament was tuesday afternoon, the team tied Granite City High School 1-1 at McCluer North. The team will play additional matches on Wednesday and Thursday, with elimination beginning after that. If the team makes it to the championship game, the match will be played on Saturday, Sep. 25.
