Girls swim travels to Springfield

Girls swim travels 4 hours to attend a meet in Springfield.

The girl’s swim and dive team huddle up and congratulate each other after an event at the Ozark Invitational. The girl’s placed fourth overall out of 20 teams in this invitational.

Over the weekend, our girls swim team traveled to Springfield to compete in a tournament. This was the first time the team had the opportunity for travel and got to experience the close connection of what traveling with teammates can bring. Of course, being on a bus for 4 hours may not seem so appealing, but Junior and third year varsity swimmer, Lydia Koehler, said the girls made the best of it.

“I really liked going out of town with the team because it was something we’ve never done before and I think it was a good experience for the team to have. I feel like companionship throughout a team is what ultimately leads them to victory and it was nice to get to see the girls outside of swim,” Koehler said.

Koehler wasn’t the only one to think the trip was a good time. Sophomore Carli Buchanan, tells about her experience with her team.

“I thought it was a lot of fun to travel with the team we had an absolute blast. It’s different spending time with them when they aren’t wearing a cap and goggles! It was just fun to have the opportunity to get to know each other more,” said Buchanan.

Koehler placed 1st in her heat, which is a group of swimmers swimming the same event, in her 100 free with a time of 1:01. Buchanan got fourth in her 100 fly and fifth in her 500 free. Junior and 3rd year Varsity swimmer, Megan Smith, placed fourth in the 100 breast. The team in its entirety scored sixth place in their 200 medley relay and scored fourth in their 400 free relay. There were a total of 20 teams, some of which were top in the state. Out of those 20 teams, the girls placed fourth overall.
