Softball team optimistic despite tough start
The first weeks of the season have been tough for the varsity softball team, but the players and coaches continue to have an optimistic approach towards the season.
“We are a little slow, but we are improving,” Head Coach Brenda Gavril said. “[We] started the season with a tough tournament, but we have made strides.”
Coach Gavril blames the rough start on the team’s many errors on defense and the lack of timely hitting. In addition, leadership, a major concern at the beginning of the season, has caused problems.
“Our biggest need is someone to step up and become that key leader,” Coach Gavril said. “So many key players graduated, and we are just trying to find the right combination.”
The lady Spartans hope to bounce back from the rough start as they face St. Charles West this Thursday September 8 at home.
