The ladies tennis team improves its record to 3-1 after taking a 1-8 match defeat against Francis Howell on Sept. 6. After losing in doubles, but winning in singles, junior Kathryn Gerler looks beyond this match and focuses on the main goal.
“I’m optimistic because we, as a team, are good and will go far in districts,” Gerler said.
Facing many changes this season has proved to be a bumpy ride for the team members and the coach as well. The team will face its first home match on new courts Thursday against Fort Zumwalt East; prior to the match will be a ribbon cutting.
As the coach is learning the strengths and weaknesses of the team, the ladies must adapt to a new style of coaching and encourages them to stay positive.
“[Coach Ottsen] reassures us that we can do better on our next match when we lose and is positive about everyone going to state,” Gerler said.
