Cross country team excels at districts
Four individuals made their way to the state meet in the district meet on Saturday. Seniors Sydney Voss and Josh McKinley, sophomore P.J. Brown and freshman runner Brittney Kennedy all placed in the top 30 of their gender, allowing them to move on to sectionals.
Not only did four runners qualify, but McKinley ended up with first place in the boys race. This is the first time in school history that any runner has ever placed first, but he is not the only one with an accomplishment.
“Sydney came back and got 14th, Brittany got ninth and Josh won the boys race for us,” said sophomore Madison Grumich.
Although four runners from Central’s team made sectionals, neither team qualified for the state meet as a whole.
“The girls team got fifth out of eleven teams, and we missed sectionals by just five points. It was so disappointing,” Grumich said.
For qualifiers, the sectional meet is Saturday at McNair Park. For all other runners, their season has ended.
