At the sectional cross country meet on Saturday Oct. 29, seniors Josh McKinley and Sydney Voss, and freshman Brittany Kennedy placed in the top 30 runners and will be going to Jefferson City for the state meet on Saturday. McKinley placed third in the boys race at sectionals after his first place victory in districts. While McKinley placed third for the boys, Kennedy placed 13th and Voss placed 20th for the girls team.
Sophomore P.J. Brown also ran in sectionals, but did not make it to the state meet. He needed to place in the top 30 to move on but fell short and placed in the top 40. Voss predicts the team’s runners will do well in their races on Saturday.
“I think Josh is expected to do fairly well in state,” Voss said. “Brittany is running for experience to get used to bigger meets, and I just got injured, so I’m not sure how I will do. Hopefully I do good but I’m just not sure yet.”
The meet is at Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City on Saturday. This course has many more hills that the team is used to, so it is expected to be a challenge.
“It will be a lot harder than usual because it’s on a golf course and it’s a lot more hilly. Also there are a lot more people than we are used to,” Voss said.
