With the season in full swing, the girls volleyball had its first stumble Friday night against a formidable foe in the form of Marquette.

In front of a packed house Friday, captains Jenna Rekosh and Danielle Lorenscheit had their team fully prepared for a tough game.

“Marquette has a great program. We started off a little rocky, but by the second game, we almost had them! They played hard —we made a few mistakes — but I think it came down to a few faulty calls. They just weren’t falling our way,” said Rekosh.

The loss to Marquette drops their record to 2-1 on the season after wins against Timberland (2-1) and Washington (2-0) last week.

“I think we could have done better; however. this was our first game that was an actual really tough match,” added Lorenscheit.

After another test in Oakville Senior High will present itself Tuesday, the girls look to get down to business against bitter rival Francis Howell at home this Thursday at 6 p.m.

“I’m proud of how we stayed emotionally stable through [the Marquette game]. We don’t truly get mad at each other — that’s a good trait to have,” said Rekosh. “I believe that our success will continue, simply because we are blessed with great talent and we have amazing camaraderie, and that in itself can make or break a team.”
