The cross country meet which was schedule to take place at McNair Park this past Friday was cancelled due to the inclement weather caused by the remnants of Hurricane Isaac, which hit Louisiana and moved upward, causing high winds and plenty of rain throughout the Midwest. Junior P.J Brown says that while having a meet cancelled is unfortunate, it give the team more time to prepare for the next meet.
“I was really disappointed that the race got cancelled,” Brown said. “It would have been the funniest race of the year if we would have ran in the rain, but we race at McNair Park a lot so it’s not like we’re missing anything special.”
McNair Park, according to Brown, is a course that the team races at 5-6 times during the season, and having an extra week of practice will help them perform better at their next meet.
“Well we always put a focus on getting more mileage per week as the year goes on, so this week we’re probably gonna put in some more distance with our workouts,” Brown explained.
The boys cross country team’s next meet is Saturday at Forest Park, and according to Brown, it’s a race the team is looking forward to.
“It’s usually the fastest race we run, so we should have a lot of new personal best times and fast times overall,” Brown said.
