The boys cross country team’s struggles continued at McNair Park during the Gateway Athletic Conference met, finishing dead last overall in the team standings. Sophomore Jake Drnec was very displeased with the results of the meet.
“I think everybody was just a little out of routine from break,” Drnec said. “I don’t think we had the same groove we do during school.” Drnec, who placed 37th out of 41 racers, believes having the meet during fall break affected their performance, but he believes the next meet will be better.
“I think districts will be ten times better due to the fact that we’re back in school,” Drnec said.
Six out of the seven varsity runners finished in the bottom ten in the standings, and with districts coming up, the cross country team really needed a good performance. Drnec believed the team tried their best to succeed, but it just wasn’t enough.
“We did all right. We can do better though. We just need to race like we practice,” Drnec said. Now, the team prepares for districts, and Drnec believes in his team.
