Spartans decimate Trojans on senior night

On May 7th, the girl’s soccer team obliterated the Troy Trojans 8-1. From the beginning the Trojans were quickly overwhelmed by the efficient Spartan offense, who capitalized on every mistake made by the Trojans and transforming them into scoring opportunities.

“We would take take advantage of their first touches and take the ball from them. Our transition [to offense] was much faster,” said sophomore midfielder Mikayla Kennedy.

Mistakes by the Trojans coupled with fluid team chemistry with the Spartans lead to eight goals, three of those goals by senior midfielder Caitlyn Eddy.

That night was also senior night, honoring the four seniors on the team: Eddy and defenders Samantha Patton, Lauren Nosal, and Rachel Schreyer. Each had been in the program for their entire high school career. For Eddy, who has played varsity all four years, the senior ceremony wasn’t what she had expected.

“I expected it to be a lot sadder, but I don’t think it was sad because I know we still have a long season ahead of us still and that we can go far this year,” Eddy said.

The team will begin their march to state on tomorrow at Howell, playing Fort Zumwalt North at 6 p.m.
