Even with an odd start to the school year, the girls JV tennis team has worked hard this past season both during matches and at practices. On Saturday, Sept. 19, the team’s top double pairs played in a tournament from 8 A.M. to 12 P. M. Even though none of the doubles won first place, their work ethic and perseverance was still just as rewarding. Sophomore Loryn Thorpe elaborates on this idea.

“I am very satisfied with my results,” Thorpe said. “Because I know I tried my hardest and had great help along the way.”

Fellow player, senior Rachel Mattingly is also proud of the work the team has put in this year. She believes that this year has sparked a lot of new growth for the doubles pairs as they play against other skilled players from other schools.

“I feel like me and my partner have grown a lot from this season,” Mattingly commented. “Playing really strong players has made us a better doubles team.”

Perhaps the most important occurrence this year, is how the team has grown closer with each other. This has allowed them to work together to improve their skills and techniques with the support from everyone involved. Thorpe adds to this.

“My teammates are like a family,” Thorpe stated. “Though we have only known each other for a short time, we all will support anyone that is dealing with struggles. On top of that, we all strive to help better ourselves and our teammates through constructive criticism and supporting each other during matches and practices.”

Mattingly also mentions how the positivity of the team has helped them become better players.

“Our team overall is really supportive,” Mattingly said. “We are always cheering each other on and everyone pushes everyone to do their best.”

Despite any and all obstacles the team has faced each year, the love and support they have for each other has helped them push through.
