After a 7-1 win against Holt on Oct. 13 during the conference, the boys varsity soccer team is focused on keeping the ball rolling toward a good chance at districts. Working hard during conferences will pay off in what bracket they are put in.

Junior Josiah Gould, who scored three goals, known as a hat trick, during the Holt game, has confidence in the team’s ability to keep pushing forward.

“If we can keep the momentum going into districts, I think we will have a really great shot,” Gould said. “If we finish first in districts, we will play the lowest seed, which will allow us to have an easier beginning to the tournament.”

However, this momentum is constantly at risk due to the potential of further quarantines, according to senior Connor Phillips.

“Our season can end at any moment, and if someone were to test positive this late in our season, it would be over,” Phillips said. 

Recently, the quarantining of three players for two weeks proved threatening to the team, but Phillips believes that it actually bolstered the boys’ confidence.

“I feel that our dynamic has shifted a bit, in which we have gained our confidence back,” Phillips said. “The guys did an amazing job with us gone, and now that we are back, we are able to come back out stronger with more depth and an edge that will help us overcome our opponents.”

Despite the setbacks with this season, this team could end up going farther than ever before.

“We have had an amazing season and we are looking to finish it out strong as one of the top teams this program has ever had,” Phillips said.
