As of today, the girls volleyball team has only two more games until their Class 5 District 6 Tournament. With two of their games being cancelled in the past week, they have had time to focus their dedication of play towards the games they have played.

Over two weeks ago, these ladies suffered under COVID-19 quarantine after several were exposed to a positive individual in their out of town tournament. Senior Emma Hultz believes the quarantine served as motivation for the team.

“I think COVID-19 has definitely caused us all to switch mindsets for our practices and games,” Hultz said. “Now that we know how quickly everything could change, playing every game like it’s our last and putting everything out on the court will definitely be our main motivator moving forward.”

After the team faced their biggest issue concerning COVID-19 a week ago, they have come back stronger than ever. On Oct. 13, the ladies went through five sets against Holt at home and won three of those five sets. They continued their winning streak through to Oct. 15 where they versed Fort Zumwalt West at home and won in three undefeated sets.

The win against Fort Zumwalt West was crucial to the team considering that they will be the first team they face in their Class 5 District 6 tournament on Oct. 27. This game was also their GAC matchup, and the win sets them up for future success.

For the next two games, the team plans on using everything they have practiced on to defeat opponents. Tonight, the varsity girls face Timberland in an away game and plan to have their blocking rack up points.

“Something we’ve been working on a lot during practices have been our blocking, and to see our practices paying off during [games] is amazing,” Hultz said.
