‘Seussical’ rehearsals finally begin
After being postponed for two weeks due to snow days, the theatre department finally had callback auditions for “Seussical the Musical” last Friday, and the cast list was posted that night on the Spotlight Players’ website. The Broadway musical is an adaptation of many Dr. Seuss stories and very similar to the movie “Horton Hears a Who.”
“Callbacks went great!” said Theatre Director Michelle Moll. “We saw a lot of amazing talent and we are very happy with who we cast. I can already tell it’s going to be a great show.”
The cast was chosen by a panel that consisted of cast director Ms. Moll, vocal director Mr. John Varwig and technical director Mr. Brandon Franck. The directors cast ten principal characters and 20 ensemble characters. The main leads of the show include senior Patrick Hurley as Horton the elephant, junior Mikelle McClintock as Gertrude McFuzz and sophomore Ethan Hammer as JoJo. Rehearsals started today after school.
“As far as this week goes, we are going to start with some vocal rehearsals as well as some characterization exercises,” said Ms. Moll. “We will also probably look at some of the Dr. Seuss books to get an idea of what the show/the characters are based on.”
The crew of “Seussical,” made up 75 people in 11 different crews, also started working today.
“The crew is having a design week and will start designing all aspects such as costumes, sets and lights,” said Ms. Moll.
Because callbacks were pushed back two weeks, the entire show is almost three weeks behind schedule. Ms. Moll is working with Mr. Harris and the other directors to reschedule production weekend in April.
