The boys swim team improves its record

On Wednesday Sept. 14, the boys swim team took first against Howell and Howell North High Schools in its first tri-meet of the season.

“The Howell tri-meet was good competition because Howell, along with us and Zumwalt West, are the top three in our district and at conference,” senior Andrew Smith said.

Not only did the team take first, but junior Zachary Rogers made personal records beating two state times. Rogers made a time of 00:22.94 in the 50 meter free style and 00:55.26 in the 100 meter backstroke.

“I was happy with the times I achieved,” Rogers said. “In both the 50 free and 100 backstroke I competed against major opponents that I will probably see again at State.”

Due to the success at the Howell tri-meet the team gained a confidence boost and went on to take another win against McCluer South.

“Playing McCluer South, a less competitive team, allowed the entire team the opportunity to participate and practice alternate styles,” Smith said.
