On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the boys swim team arrived at the Rec Plex ready to support its dive team during the GAC meet. Having sophomore Eric Macy injured and unable to compete, sophomore Brendan Brause was the only diver representing Central and set a new GAC record of 435 points breaking the previous record by 33 points.
“It was an eleven dive meet,” Brause said. “Each dive has a different degree of difficulty, they get scored by the three judges present and then the final score is the combination of all dives added together.”
Having made a new record, Brause is now going to state next weekend and is ambitious to begin practice.
“I’m going to be practicing each night before state,” Brause said. “I could have done better on my inward dive and my back one half dive was a little over so those will probably be my main focus.”
This being only his second year diving, Brause has not only impressed the judges but also his teammates and coaching staff.
“It was so cool when Brendan made the new record. We were all so excited and I was just impressed,” junior Alison Strickler, swim manager said. “He has done amazing the entire season and has worked so hard to beat his competitors who have dived their entire lives.”
