Gaining 15 freshmen swimmers has helped the girls swim team earn a 4-2 winning record. The team’s three freshmen divers help earn the team points, while others have shown themselves to be exceptionally talented swimmers.

“ Freshman Danielle Cox is one of two swimmers on the team that is under one minute for the 100-meter freestyle event,” said Coach Erin Thurston. “She is constantly dropping time.”

According to Thurston, Paige Keane is another talented freshman swimmer. Keane swims mainly the 100-meter butterfly, as well diving events for the team.

“[Keane] is basically our expert non-freestyler,” said Thurston. “She recently took first in the 200-meter individual medley, so she will be swimming that more.”

Besides the freshmen on the team, juniors Natalie Kinzer and Alison Strickler have shown themselves to be talented as well, according to Thurston. Strickler has already qualified in multiple events for state, while Kinzer is extremely versatile in her events.

“Kinzer can swim anything,” said Thurston. “She gets excellent times in almost any event.”

With Strickler already qualified in state events and Cox less that one second away from qualifying in the 50-meter freestyle, Thurston plans to go to state.

“I’m also hoping to have a 200-meter freestyle relay team qualify for state,” said Thurston.

The swim team took third place in the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational meet on Saturday, Jan. 7, competing against 11 other schools.
