Striving to Victory

Faces of determination flared on the court as the girls tennis team won their game 6-3 against Fort Zumwalt North. On Sept. 16, the team played a home game at 3:30 where they performed diligently. With the tennis season shifting rapidly, the girls continue to defeat their opponents and improve their performance.

Sophomore Melissa Wyas, who is currently the number one player on varsity, believes that the whole team has a strong friendship and a new level of optimism. This strong bond between the team and their new attitude causes them to play courageously and encouragingly.

“As a team, we have bonded and gotten really close,” said Wyas. “We are all friends off and on the court which is important for the whole team.”

This season, the girls have improved as they endured the defeats and wins against many schools. Assistant Coach Scott Wilson has confidence in the girls and has seen growth in the team throughout the season.

“We have seen great improvement since the start of the season,” said Mr. Wilson. “We haven’t had the wins we would like, but our matches have been close and the girls have played well.”

Although the team has experienced many losses against harsh competitors, junior Elise Thomas views their defeats as a way to inspire determination and success.

“We have played some really tough teams, but we have kept a good rally against them,” said Thomas. “The harder the competition, the more it causes you to strive harder.”
