GAC’s marks the final match for some and the beginnings of districts for others

The Girls varsity golf team played in the GAC tournament on Tuesday, October 1. The GAC’s are important to the team in more ways than just a typical tournament because GAC’s determine who moves on to districts.

At GAC’s, sophomore Kylie Brown placed 8th out of the top twelve players with a 93. In total, Francis Howell Central placed 5th out of 6 teams with a 412. The next best score was by senior Gabrielle Berger with a 101.

“The course itself was playable, but the pressure that came on was a lot harder than what is usually is,” senior Emily Jesse said.

Jesse also spoke to the importance of the ‘practice makes perfect’ frame of mind and the importance of hard work. She said the longer one stayed at practice, the more they would be prepared for GAC’s.

GAC’s were hosted by Troy at Woods Fort Golf Course. Which, as the name suggests, is covered in an abundance of forest.

“It’s just so many woods, you have to hit it straight all the time,” senior Rachel Bruno said.

Districts were Monday, October 7. These lead to sectionals which were on Oct. 14, which lead to State on Oct. 21-22. Gabrielle Berger moved onto sectionals as well.

Unlike most teams at Francis Howell Central, the team takes a minivan instead of a bus due to the size of the team. Which the team actually prefers because of the air conditioning and radio.

The varisty golf team has five members, and in total the team has 19 members, a lot coming over from Saeger Middle School across the street. The team got new uniforms at the beginning of the year, which the girls were very excited about.

Varsity won its first match against Fort Zumwalt North by 20 strokes. They then placed 21st out of 70 in the Washington tournament. On Sept. 23, it was Bruno with lowest score for the team of 46. And although they lost the Angel Classic itself, getting 19th place out of 19 teams, Berger got her personal best of 92 strokes.
