Arete prepares for Silver Shield ceremony

The annual process for the Silver Shield ceremony begins.

Arete recently wrapped up their annual teacher recognition process. Math teacher Mrs. Danna Tedder won FHC Teacher of the Year, which was announced last week.

The next event on Arete’s schedule is the Silver Shield ceremony: a time where each teacher recognizes a student who they believe has made an impact on them, the class, the school, or the community.

“All teachers will be sent an email which asks to nominate a student that has made a difference,” said Ms. Jennifer Denny, an Arete faculty committee member.

Each teacher will pick a student and write a note about how that student has made an effect in some way. The recognized students will receive an invitation to come to the ceremony. The students will not know which teacher is recognizing them until that night, as the announcer will reveal the kind words each teacher says about their chosen  student. During the ceremony, the student will receive a Silver Shield medal and take a picture with the teacher who nominated them.

“I felt really honored to receive my Silver Shield. I was really proud that all my hard work was recognized by Mrs. Milos,” said past Silver Shield recipient Alex Buhse, who received the award for Art.
