As the small gym draws nearer, sounds of shouts and dribbled basketballs fall on the ears of those around. At 5 p.m. on Dec. 15, the freshman boy’s basketball team took on the Liberty Eagles, pulling away with a score of 42-30. The game began with the Spartans falling behind, but a motivational talk at halftime led them to come back out with a bang, ultimately winning by 12 points. After six games so far this season, the team boasts an undefeated record in non-tournament play. Being a team of entirely freshmen, the boys are new to high school basketball and face a short amount of time to come together quickly, but through familiarity, Luke Henderson has found the transition to be all but seamless.
“I’ve been playing since I was in preschool, so I’ve grown up loving the game,” Henderson said.
The freshman Spartans play next at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 3 at home against Marquette.
